After the grand release of the LG G5, fans are eagerly waiting for the successor of this technological beast, the LG G6. The rumor was, the South Korean company is going to introduce the curved OLED display for the first time in the upcoming flagship device. But some latest reports tell a different story. According to the Korean news outlet ChosunBiz, LG has scrapped the plan to include a curved OLED display in G6 and instead they are thinking to add foldable and flexible display in this precious handset.
The South Korean tech conglomerate has recently sighted with a patent application listing which mentions that LG is not only thinking about just a foldable screen but also a transparent one. The company has previously tried the same in their LG G Flex 2 handset, but that lacked proficiency and has plenty of rooms to improve and upgrade.
This is not the first time a smartphone making company is trying to incorporate a transparent as well as a flexible touchscreen. In 2013, Samsung was working on such concept. Before that, in 2011, the famous automobile company Aston Martin came up with a concept Mobiado CPT002 handset, which featured a transparent touchscreen.
The patent application filed by the tech conglomerate is based on that foldable concept but with an improved modern day application. The illustration in the patent flaunts a large, foldable display which could be used on both sides by the user. The transparent display will also allow the users to see through the handset.
The patent also demonstrates that the LG G6 could be shaped something like a book and could be a foldable device. The touch controls could be included in one side of the display while the other side of the device could feature the transparent display. The drawing on the patent also indicates the same theory as on the left side of the picture flaunts a washed-out or faded hand when it’s supposed to be hidden already.
Yes, a foldable and a flexible display is an ambitious dream. The transparent screen makes the job much tougher. But as science and technology are progressing at a rapid pace, we can hope for that LG G6 would come with a transparent flexible display.
